After many speculations that shocked the film fraternity, director AL Vijay has finally broken his silence on news of him filing for a divorce with actress Amala Paul, ending their two years of marriage. In a recent statement, Vijay claims that though the news of them getting divorced is true, the reason for the separation is unknown to anyone.
"Many of my best friends and well wishers in this industry, including media friends were insisting me to speak out. But I thought discussing my private life in public would do no good to the cause," reads Vijay's statement released on Wednesday, Aug. 3.
He also states that his father AL Alagappan responded to the divorce news earlier through a news channel as he was pained with the unpleasant developments in his family life. It has to be noted that the statements made by the film producer tightened the rumours of the couple's relationship hitting rocky waters.
In the statement, Vijay also adds that being a socially responsible person, he respects women and their freedom of choice. "The portrayal of women in my films with dignity and self respect, reflects the amount of respect I have towards them. When Amala wanted to continue her career in films, I supported her to the best of my ability. And she continued acting even after marriage. The new found accusations that me or my family were stopping her from work is completely untrue," Vijay added.
However, the director, who has decided to end his relationship with Amala, hinted that his wife has broken his trust and was dishonest, which have now led to their split. "The base for any marital relationship is honesty and trust, when that is breached the very existence of committed relationship becomes meaningless. I really value the institution of marriage and relationship a lot."
Vijay also says that he is left with no other choice than divorce even though he never thought his relationship will Amala would end this way. "With lots of pain in my heart, I have decided to move on in life in a dignified manner. The gender bias in certain section of the media without knowing the actual facts damages the personal and professional integrity of mine, which is much more painful than the original episode of departing," Vijay stated.
Finally, he also thanked everyone for their support and requested the public to respect their personal life by giving enough space and stop spreading rumours about them. "Lastly I would be grateful if people respect our personal lives and space as their very own and not delve into any more speculations based on stray rumours.I thank you all for being there for me in this hour of personal crisis," Vijay's statement read
It was on July 23 when International Business Times India broke the news about Amala and Vijay heading for a divorce based on the statements of some reliable sources close to the actress.
