All universities have been asked to ensure that there is an "online admission system in place" from the next academic session.
University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Ved Prakash has said establishing an online admission system will ensure transparency and greater efficiency in the functioning of various institutions.
By establishing an online admissions system, the universities would give students and their parents the benefit of making an informed choice, according to PTI.
Prakash asked all universities to bring up the online admission systems on a "priority basis" from the next academic session, which will begin around April 2016. A letter was sent out to all vice-chancellors regarding the new system.
Prakash has said he will review the progress made by universities in this regard in a meeting scheduled to be held in early January 2016, according to the PTI report.
Universities that do not have an updated online website, or partial information, have been asked to indicate the proposed steps for converting the information into an online mode for the next academic year, PTI reported.
