Local residents of California witnessed a strange fleet of light appearing in the night skies. At first glance, the fleet of light seemingly looked very similar to alien spaceships, which are often seen in Hollywood sci-fi flicks like Independence Day. Videos and pictures of the bizarre sky event soon went viral on social media and many people argued that an alien invasion is imminent.
Some eyewitnesses apparently claimed that several US fighter jets rushed to the scene soon after the lights appeared in the skies.
A video of the strange sky event was later shared on YouTube by conspiracy theory channel 'Third Phase of Moon' where it raked up more than 24.000 views. After watching the video, most of the viewers argued that the fleet of light spotted could be actually from an alien mothership which came to the earth from deep space.
As the news went viral, an official at the Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado stated that the lights in the skies were caused by flares. The official also added that the whole incident was the part of a military training exercise. However, he did not reveal more details about the training exercise.
Even though officials gave an explanation to the strange sighting, viewers of 'Third Phase of Moon' are apparently not convinced. Most of the viewers allege that the government is intentionally covering up secrets regarding the existence of alien life.
"I've spent some time in the military, in the air and on the ground, these do not appear to be flares, I've seen plenty over the years, flares don't bunch together for this long, they tend to spread apart with the wind and fall to the ground fairly quickly, these just seem to hover, it keeps its form which tells me it's probably one object. My guess is possibly some black project or an actual possible genuine UFO," commented Damen Rachel, a YouTube user.
"If it was a military op or exercise, the military would brief the public to avoid mass panic," added Rachel.
Most of the viewers also requested authorities to probe more into this bizarre sky sighting as it is a matter of national security.
