Alcatel is probably not the first brand that comes to mind while shopping for smartphones, but the company has some appealing products worth considering. The company just launched their Idol 4 smartphone in India, months after it was unveiled at a pre-MWC 2016 event earlier this year.
In order to attract Indian consumers, Alcatel has bundled the Idol 4 with a high-quality VR headset and a pair of JBL headphones for an immersive experience. The handset also has a Full HD IPS LTPS display to enhance the VR experience for its users.
The Idol 4 bundle is available exclusively on Flipkart for Rs 16,999. The sale begins at 2 pm on Thursday.
If you feel the price of the handset is a bit too much for a relatively low-key brand, check out the specifications. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor paired with Adreno 405 GPU and 3GB RAM. There's 16GB of onboard storage, which can further be expanded up to 512GB via microSD card.
Alcatel Idol 4 sports a 5.2-inch screen, a 13MP primary camera with dual-LED flash and an 8MP front snapper, which also has a flash for low-light selfies. The handset enhances the photography experience with its real time face beautification feature.
The dual-SIM smartphone packs a relatively small 2,610mAh battery, which comes with Quick Charge 2.0. It supports 4G LTE and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
Despite the high price tag, Alcatel fails to offer VoLTE and a fingerprint scanner, which is common in almost all the smartphones these days. The lack of biometric sensor could be one of the major reasons for its failure to appeal to consumers, but the company is playing the VR card to lure buyers.
