Akshay Kumar seems to have snatched away a biggie from Salman Khan, who is basking in the success of "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo". As per reports, Akki has bagged the remake of "Kaththi", which was earlier reported to have had Sallu in it.

Things are finally moving at a rapid pace for the Hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster "Kaththi". The film will be bankrolled jointly by Lyca Productions and A R Murugadoss, the creators of the Tamil version, in association with Fox Studios.

It was widely reported earlier that Salman Khan was approached by the producers for the remake, and the "Dabangg" star had shown interest in the project. But things reportedly did not work out, leading the Bollywood actor to opt out of the venture.

The next choice was A R Murugadoss' favourite Akshay Kumar. Akki was happy with the script and gave his consent to act in the flick. The actor had earlier starred in a couple of Southern remakes, including "Vikramarkudu" ("Rowdy Rathore" in Hindi) abd "Ramana" ("Gabbar is Back").

The director had earlier remade his "Ghajini" and "Thuppakki" in Hindi. But this time, he has given the opportunity to his assistant Jagan to direct a Hindi remake.

More details on the remake will be out in the coming days. On the other end, there are also preparations for the "Kaththi" remake in Telugu, with which Megastar Chiranjeevi is making his comeback to acting.

"Kaththi" is one of the biggest hits of Vijay's career. Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh and Samantha had played important roles in the flick. It was written and directed by A R Murugadoss. The story deals with the plight of farmers and the powerful nexus of media, politicians and businessmen. How a petty thief takes on the powerful establishment forms the crux of the story.
