Salman Khan's "Sultan" will open big, which means massive footfall. In an effort to cash in on it, makers are vying to attach their film trailers to it.
Although speculations were on that trailers of "Shivaay" and "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" will be out with the sports-drama film, a DNA report suggests that it's Akshay Kumar's "Rustom" that has won the race.
Yash Raj Films head honcho Aditya Chopra prefers trailers from his production house to others, but this time he may have to let go of the tradition. A theatre chain has apparently decided to attach "Rustom" trailer to "Sultan" and the producer-director cannot do much about it.
An insider told the daily that the marketing team is trying to strike a deal with PVR theatres and see if they can walk past YRF restrictions and attach their film's trailer with "Sultan."
"Akshay is currently on holiday and won't return before July 6 (when Sultan releases), so three versions of the trailer had been sent to him for approval last week. One trailer will release tomorrow (June 30) while the theatrical one will be among the other two," the source further elaborated.
Directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, "Rustom" is set in the 1950s and loosely based on the infamous Nanavati case where a naval officer was tried for making bullet holes into his wife's lover. Because the film requires Akshay to essay a role from decades ago, he will be seen flaunting a lot of cardigans and flared pants. Esha Gupta and Ileana D'Cruz are the leading ladies.
