Last year, there were reports of Akshay Kumar having snagged the Hindi remake of Vijay-starrer "Kaththi," which was supposed to have Salman Khan in the lead. And now, the buzz is that the plot has been slightly tweaked as most of the Indian audiences have watched the original film.
The central theme, which was farmer suicides, now has more to do with water scarcity and how companies are tapping into free water and using it to expand soft drink businesses, reports Box Office India.
To be directed by A R Murugadoss' assistant Jagan, the film has been tentatively titled "Ikka." What's interesting to note is, it is quite similar to Shekhar Kapur's "Paani" starring Sushant Singh Rajput, but from what was reported last year, it has been shelved. However, "Paani" was anyway a love story, sort of a modern take on "Romeo & Juliet" but with a twist.
Meanwhile, Akshay is focusing on the countless projects that lay ahead of him for the year. He is in Chennai shooting with Rajinikanth for "2.0" aka "Robot 2," and has finished portions of Tinu Desai's "Rustom," in which he plays a naval officer from the 50s. "Housefull 3" is another film lined up for release; it will see him essay a person suffering from a split personality disorder.
"Holiday 2," and "Namastey England" will feature the superstar, director Vipul Shah confirmed the development last week. "Welcome 3," "Oh My God 2," and "Awara Paagal Deewana 2" are some of the other films he may be part of.
