The producer of "Rustom" has confirmed that the release date has not been changed yet and it is still slated to hit the screens on Aug. 12. It had previously been reported that the makers of Akshay Kumar's upcoming movie "Rustom" have changed the release date of its film to avoid a box office clash with Hrithik Roshan's "Mohenjo Daro."
Producer Nitin Keni said that they have been discussing with "Mohenjo Daro" director Ashutosh Gowariker about the issue but neither of the teams has made any decision on changing the dates of release.
"As of now it's still August 12. We announced the date first. Yes, we have been talking to Ashutosh Gowariker but there's been no decision taken on changing the date. They haven't even begun their promotions yet," Nitin told Mumbai Mirror.
Earlier, it was reported that the makers of the Akshay-starrer have decided to release the film a week prior to "Mohenjo Daro" after Hrithik had requested the actor to do so. "Until recently, makers of both films were not willing to change their initial release date, but now it looks like 'Rustom' will arrive in theatres a week before 'Mohenjo Daro,'" Mid-Day had quoted a source as saying.
"The decision was taken to avoid a situation where the business of both films would have been affected. Both films star big names and are highly anticipated; coming together on the same day would have been unwise," the source had told the daily.
Directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, "Rustom" will present Ileana D'Cruz as the female lead, while "Mohenjo Daro" will mark the Bollywood debut of Pooja Hegde. Akshay was last seen in the movie "Airlift" (2016) that turned out to be a box office hit and Hrithik's last movie "Bang Bang" was released in 2014.
