Sonakshi Sinha's "Akira" is likely to witness a great opening at the box office on Friday, Sept.2. The A R Murugadoss directorial is expected to beat the opening day domestic box office collection record of the director's previous flick "Holiday," which also starred Sonakshi.
The teaser and the posters of "Akira" have been creating a lot of buzz, making the viewers eagerly wait for the flick to hit theatres. Also, this will be the first time Sonakshi will be seen in a strong female-centric role.
The film will see her in a never-seen-before avatar and delivering some power-packed action stunts. It would be interesting to see the "Dabangg" actress, who until now had been portraying a "damsel in distress," breaking the stereotype image of her as an actress.
While Murugadoss' "Holiday" had witnessed a good opening (Rs.12 crore at the domestic box office), going by the hype of "Akira," it has the potential to outdo the opening day collection of Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi starrer "Holiday."
"Akira" is an action movie and will see Sonakshi as Akira Sharma, who comes to Mumbai from Jodhpur to get herself enrolled in a college but gets into a major tiff with the goons of the college. The film, which is a remake of Tamil film "Mouna Guru," will also highlight the issue of acid attacks in the country.
Apparently, Akshay, who shares a good rapport with Sonakshi and Murugadoss, will be seen in a cameo in the film. Rumour has it that the makers have kept the "Rustom" star's appearance in the film as a big surprise for his fans. "Akira" also features Konkana Sen Sharma and Anurag Kashyap in supporting roles.
Talking about why the director chose to work with Sonakshi in "Akira," Murugadoss told Indo Asian News Service (IANS): "I know her very well. Instead of approaching some other actress and getting to know her from scratch, I felt working with someone I'm already comfortable with makes more sense. Sonakshi understands the way I work and we share a great rapport and, hence, we decided to collaborate."
