Sonakshi Sinha's "Akira" had started well at the box office but the film's collection kept declining since Monday. After earning decently over the weekend, business of "Akira" has been average till its 1st week.
Directed by AR Murugadoss, "Akira" has completed 7 days at the box office and its Indian collection has crossed Rs. 25 crore nett. The action drama had received mixed reviews from the critics but the film was benefited by positive word of mouth and less competition from other releases.
After earning Rs. 16.65 crore nett at the domestic market over the weekend, the Sonakshi-starrer could collect only Rs. 7.87 crore nett more till Wednesday. "#Akira Fri 5.15 cr, Sat 5.30 cr, Sun 6.20 cr, Mon 3.40 cr, Tue 2.40 cr, Wed 2.07 cr. Total: 24.52 cr. India biz. [sic]," tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
The figures clearly show that the film's collection kept falling after each day over the weekdays. And its Thursday earning was even lower as it collected Rs. 1.87 crore on its 7th day, taking its 1st week domestic collection to over Rs. 26.39 crore nett.
Having made on a budget of Rs. 30 crore, the movie had recovered half of its total cost through sale of satellite and music rights. Thus, "Akira" is already running on profits but its pace at the box office has been much slow than what was expected.
Moreover, with the release of Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif starrer "Baar Baar Dekho" on Sept. 9, "Akira" will find it even harder to survive in the coming days at the commercial circuit. Nawazuddin Siddiqui's "Freaky Ali" is also slated to be released along with "Baar Baar Dekho." Although the hype around "Freaky Ali" is not much, it will also divide the box office share to some extent.
