Ajith's "Yennai Arindhaal" reached a new milestone at the box office on Thursday, 26 March. The Tamil movie, which was released on 5 February, has completed 50 days in theatres.
"Yennai Arindhaal" is still running in some theatres in Tamil Nadu. In Chennai, it is being screened in theatres like Sathyam, Luxe, Inox, PVR and Mayajaal. It is a good thing that the film achieved the feat on a Thursday considering the Thursday sentiment of producer AM Rathnam. Be it the muhurat or the release, all the important events were held on Thursdays.
The Tamil movie opened to mixed reviews from critics but managed to impress Ajith, Trisha and Gautham Menon fans. More importantly, the family audience loved the movie in urban centres and this helped it reach this mark.
When it comes to the box office collection, "Yennai Arindhaal" made ₹14.5 crore on the opening day. In the four-day first weekend, the Tamil film grossed ₹53.5 crore worldwide, becoming one of the biggest non-holiday openers.
Ajith's brilliant acting, his chemistry with Trisha, Arun Vijay's electrifying screen presence, good background score with Gautham Menon's good narration were the underlining parts of "Yennai Arindhaal".
Critics had appreciated Ajith for taking a break from usual commercial masala films and doing a movie that has less scope for larger-than-life scenes.
There were fears that "Yennai Arindhaal" would be affected by "Anegan". In fact, both the films were forced to share screens once the Dhanush starrer hit threatres. But the Ajith starrer managed to overcome such fears and remained strong at collection centres.
"Yennai Arindhaal" has managed to make more than ₹100 crore at worldwide box office.
