Ajith's "Arrambam" (Beginning) has been confirmed for a Diwali release in November 2013.
Confirming the news, senior film journalist Sreedhar Pillai tweeted, "#Arrambam offically confirms release as Diwali 2013 through press release from producer."
Ajith fans are waiting to see their star, fondly referred to as "Thala" (leader), appear on screen after a span of over a year. The actor was last seen playing a cameo in the Tamil version of Sridevi's "English Vinglish". The announcement on the release date of "Arrambam" will bring cheer among his fans.
The festive season of Diwali has proved lucky for Ajith as some of his earlier releases - "Villain" and "Varalaru" - have become big hits. "Arrambam" is already making waves thanks to Ajith's star power and an interesting teaser that was released in May on the eve of Ajith's birthday. Its theatrical rights have been purchased for a whopping amount in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Ooty and Erode areas by leading distributor Cosmo Pictures
According to reports, the amount paid for the theatrical rights of "Arrambam" is more than the sum paid for "Vijay's "Thalaivaa" and Suriya's "Singam 2".
"Arrambam" is produced by AM Rathnam's Sri Surya Movies, in association with A Raghuram's Sri Satya Sai Movies. Directed by Vishnu Vardhan, the action-entertainer boasts of a big star cast including Arya, Nayanthara, Taapsee Pannu and Rana Daggubatti.
The Ajith-starrer might clash with Karthi's "All in All Azhagu Raja", which is also expected to get released for Diwali. Earlier, rumours were doing the rounds that Kamal Haasan's "Vishwaroopam 2" might also hit screens on Diwali. But it was later reported that the spy-thriller might have a solo release in November or December.
The audio launch of "Arrambam" is expected to take place soon. Buzz is that the music release might be slated for 9 September. But there is no official confirmation from the makers.
Ajith's other film - "Veeram" - is slated to hit theatres in January next year. Directed by Siruthai Siva, "Veeram" is reportedly set in the backdrop of a rural setting. The film has Tamannah playing the female lead. It is expected to head for a showdown with Vijay's "Jilla", which is also proposed to be released around the same time.
