The race for the 2014 Pongal release has already commenced in the Tamil film industry. Vijay's "Jilla" and Ajith's "Veeram" is confirmed to hit the screens during the harvest festival. Apart from these two films, Karthi's "Biriyani" is also looking for a Pongal release.
Latest buzz in Kollywood is that Vadivelu's comeback film "Tenali Raman" is planning for a clash with the biggies around the same time. Most portions of "Tenali Raman" is said to have been completed and the film's makers are eyeing to release it for Pongal 2014. But, an official confirmation on the same is yet to be made.
With the release of three big films, it is not possible for Vadivelu's "Tenali Raman" to get enough number of screens. One might have to wait a little longer to find out if the film will hit screens or back out of the Pongal race.
Directed by Yuvaraj, "Tenali Raman" is deemed as a a comedy entertainer. Vadivelu is reportedly playing a dual role in the flick, which has music composed by Imman of "Kumki" fame.
Vadivelu, who is popular for his slapstick comedies, was forced to go on a two-year sabbatical. He had a dispute with actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth in connection with some controversy. Vadivelu intensely campaigned for Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party, headed by Karunanidhi, during the 2011 legislative assembly elections.
In his public speeches, Vadivelu condemned Vijayakanth, whose Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party was in alliance with Jayalalithaa-led All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). The actor drew huge crowds for his speeches, but it did not help as DMK lost the elections. Ever since Vadivelu ended up on the losing team, the actor lost his numero uno position as a comedian and is in exile from the Tamil film industry. After a two-year hiatus, Vadivelu is making his comeback with "Tenali Raman".
