Post the success of Suriya's "Singam 2", playing a cop role seems to be the current trend among Tamil film stars.

Latest buzz is that two of the most popular actors of south India - Ajith and Vijay, will don police uniforms in their upcoming films.

Earlier reports said that Suriya will be reprising a police character in his next project with Lingusamy. Now we hear that Ajith, who is working in Vishnuvardhan's untitled film, will be also seen playing a cop. A reliable source close to the film told The Times of India, "Yes, the actor will be playing a cop, but it's not a role that he will be portraying throughout the film. His cop character will come for a few scenes and will take the story forward".

Rumours are also doing the rounds that Vijay will make his appearance as a police officer in "Jilla", directed by RT Nesan. Earlier it was suggested that Vijay was playing a Muslim in the film, after leaked pictures from the film set showed the actor dressed as a Muslim with a long robe and thick beard. But sources close to the film later clarified that the makeover is just for a brief period and the actor does not sport the look throughout the film.

Now, buzz is that Vijay will play a cop character in "Jilla", which also has Mohan Lal and Poornima Bhagyaraj in supporting roles. It is said that some scenes involving Telugu actor Brahmanandam, who will essay the character of a trainer, was shot in the Avadi police camp.

If the reports are true, then it will not be the first time that these two actors will feature in police officer roles. Vijay played an undercover in 2007 release "Pokkiri". Similarly, Ajith has played cop characters in a couple of films including "Anjaneya" and "Mankatha".

Ajith's film is expected to get released in August end or in September this year, whereas Vijay's "Jilla" is heading for a Pongal release in 2014.
