Madhuri Dixit held a prayer meet on Monday in memory of her father, late Shankar R Dixit, at ISKCON Temple in Mumbai.
The actress' father passed away in his sleep on Friday. Shankar Dixit had been unwell for the past few days and was staying with his family in Mumbai. The prayer meet or the "chautha ceremony", the fourth day of mourning, was arranged by Madhuri at ISKCON auditorium between 3 pm to 5 pm on Monday.
Several Bollywood celebrities attended the prayer meeting to pay their respects. Madhuri's family, two sons and husband Dr Sriram Nene were present at the event.
Celebrities including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Kajol, Sonali Bendre, Juhi Chawla, Huma Qureshi, Jackie Shroff, Boney Kapoor, Manish Paul, Lauren Gottlieb, Punit, Gayatri Joshi, Randhir Kapoor, Huma qureshi, Poonam Dhillon, Pamela Chopra, veteran actress Asha Parekh, Shammi Aunty, Aarti Chabaria and director Sooraj Barjatya were among the others who attended the prayer meet.
Juhi Chawla, who will share the big screen with Madhuri in an upcoming film, stayed back the longest to offer support.
After the event, Madhuri thanked her well-wishers on social networking site Twitter. "Thank u for standing by me and giving support. Our family is coming to terms with the loss. His memory lives on in our hearts," she said.
"Wanted to thank everyone for all your support at this difficult time. My dad was amazing and we will miss him," she added. "His memory will live on in the hearts of his 4 kids and 7 grand kids. And our successes are his successes."
