The Royal ascot meeting is held annually, since 1711, at the famous Berkshire course. It is one of the prestigious sporting events in the world. More than 300,000 visitors are expected to attend the event which is held for five days.
The first day meeting commences on a Tuesday and at the beginning of each race day there will be a royal procession, wherein the Queen and the various members of the British royal family will arrive in horse-drawn carriages.
On the first day of this year's meeting, Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall arrived at the Ascot race course. But, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, was missing as he had been recovering from abdominal surgery. He is expected to convalesce at the hospital for at least a week.
