Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a regular to the Cannes Film Festival for the past 12 years, is one of the most awaited celebrities at the prestigious event.
The 39-year-old star, who was voted the best-dressed celebrity on the Cannes red carpet in 2012, has once again captivated the crowds with her striking beauty and fabulous outfits, putting down fears of another style disaster in the making.
In 2012, she walked the red carpet amid a 'weight gain' controversy, but this year she showed up in a slender figure and gave no chance for critics to spin out another 'fat' debate. Her presence at Cannes was also much-awaited following a string of disastrous appearances from other Bollywood celebrities like Vidya Balan, Sonam Kapoor, Sherlyn Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan
The brand ambassador of cosmetic brand L'Oreal Paris impressed everyone when she appeared for the screening of "Inside Llewyn Davis" in a black lace-print Elie Saab Spring 2013 couture gown. For the second day, the green-eyed beauty looked stunningly beautiful in a floor-length long sleeved gown that had floral bead embroidery in white and pastel shades.
"Aishwarya is the quintessential Beauty and an Indian Icon across the Globe. We wanted to design something that reflected her position as the Queen of Indian Cinema," Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla said, according to The Times of India.
But there was a huge disappointment for fashion watchers when the actress showed up for the evening gala that honoured 100 Years of Indian Cinema. She had worn a black-and-gold embroidered lehenga-sari designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
This is not the first time the actress has made a fashion gaffe at the film festival. In the past, her wardrobe choices have been a disaster, and only after 2005 did the actress seemed to be making a style statement on the Cannes red carpet.
