Bollywood diva and former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, is all set to grace the red carpet at the 66th Cannes Film Festival in May.
The Bachchan bahu had been regularly attending the film festival in the past decade, but this year will be different with father-in-law megastar Amitabh Bachchan joining her.
Apparently, Amitabh's first Hollywood debut film "The Great Gatsby" has been selected for the opening of the film festival. The actor announced on Facebook that he would be travelling for the occasion.
"Baz Luhrmann informs me that 'The Great Gatsby' has been officially selected for the opening film for Cannes film festival on May 15th .. all very excited ! And the premier of the film in New York on May 1st as told to me ... but yet to be confirmed...So travel coming up for these occasions," said Big B.
Aishwarya's spokesperson said that she will attend this year's event. "She will be attending the Cannes Film festival this year also as the L'Oreal Paris ambassador as she has been doing in the past," her spokesperson told Emirates24/7.
The former beauty queen has been attending the event as brand ambassador of cosmetic brand L'Oreal Paris.
Last year, Aishwarya made headlines for her appearance at the 6fth International Film Festival. She walked the red carpet amid controversy over her post-pregnancy weight. Her weight gain had almost become a national concern, after her "double chin" photo surfaced online. In her defence, the 39-year-old actress said that she wanted to "enjoy motherhood."
Also, her daughter Aaradhya was in news after reports emerged that she would make her first public appearance at the International Film Festival that very same year. Unfortunately for fans and media, Aaradhya, who was then six months old, stayed back at the hotel with her grandmother Brinda.
The 66th Cannes Film Festival will take place from 15 May to 26 May and Steven Spielberg will be the head of the jury for the main competition.
This year, India will be one of the guest countries to commemorate 100 years of Indian cinema.
