Airtel Digital TV, the DTH service arm of the leading telecom operator Bharti Airtel introduced a new Android app called Pocket TV, which would allow the subscribers to watch TV channels on their mobile phones.
Although the app is currently available only for Android devices, Airtel will be bringing it for iOS based devices soon. The Pocket TV app comes loaded with more than 150 Live TV channels and would enable the users to stream and watch over 10,000 hours of video content. This app will also allow users to watch the previous episodes of their favourite shows on over 13 channels.
The users can filter channels and view videos by genre and can also search their favourite channels by just typing the names. Besides the streaming, the Pocket TV is also integrated with Facebook and the user can set programme reminders. The app is also adjusted to streaming bitrate to the network bandwidth on the users' devices.
"The app is a convergence of the TV & mobile phone and its launch follows the success of Airtel Digital TV's innovative offering of Twitter on TV which was the first ever global convergence of Twitter and TV," Android OS quoted Airtel Digital TV.
The Airtel Digital television subscribers can download the Airtel Pocket TV app from Google Play store for free. The app works with all mobile networks and is available at an introductory price of ₹60 per month. Once the app is installed, an SMS to 54325 from the registered mobile number will activate the service on the mobile phones.
In India, Tata Sky and Dish TV are also offering the same service to its customers.
