Akshay Kumar's "Airlift" had an excellent opening weekend at the domestic box office, with an income of approximately Rs 44 crore. On Sunday, the film witnessed a growth of 40 percent compared to its opening day box office collection.
"Airlift", which can easily be called the first hit of 2016, started on a decent note on Friday and on Saturday, the film witnessed a positive trend. Due to positive reviews and word of mouth, the business started to grow with each passing day, resulting in an excellent opening weekend collection.

With an opening weekend box office collection of Rs 44.30 crore, the film has shattered the records of Akshay's past films of the same genre. "Baby", "Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty" and "Gabbar Is Back" had recorded the best opening weekend in the given genre and now "Airlift" tops the list. "Baby" had an opening weekend of Rs 36.07 crore, "Gabbar Is Back" Rs 39.41 crore and "Holiday" Rs 41.32 crore.
Meanwhile, Akshay has thanked his fans for the love and support showered on his latest release "Airlift". The actor took to Twitter to thank everyone for the support.
"I don't know how to thank you all for every ounce of all your love and support for #Airlift, feeling extremely humbled," Akshay tweeted on Sunday.
Directed by Raja Menon, the film features Akshay and Nimrat Kaur in the lead roles, while Feryna Wazheir, Purab Kohli, Lena, Kumud Mishra and Prakash Belawadi are in the supporting cast.
