Government-owned carrier Air India on Saturday announced an all-inclusive airfare of Rs. 1,499 to passengers on all domestic routes. The limited-period scheme is valid between May 21 and 25.
Passengers can book their tickets for travel between July and September 30, 2016. The AI offer comes close on the heels of similar discounts by other domestic carriers such as SpiceJet and Air Asia India.
"Under super sale offer, Flyers can book tickets at attractive fares starting from Rs. 1,499 (all inclusive) on domestic network," Press Trust of India quoted Air India as saying in a statement.
Two quarters i.e. January to March and July to September are typically considered the season that witnesses lack of travel demand from passengers. Last week, budget carrier SpiceJet announced a three-day sale of airfares with domestic base-fare starting from Rs. 511 and international base-fare starting from Rs. 2,111 to mark its 11th anniversary.
On the other hand, AirAsia India announced 50 percent discount on return flights for three days (between May 16-18). Passengers could book their tickets for flights between August and November 2016. AirAsia India had said the offer was to make the carrier fly 2.5 million passengers since its India foray in June 2014.
Airlines in India witnessed double-digit growth in domestic passenger traffic in April. Air India improved its share to 15.1 percent in April from 14.7 percent in March, while budget carrier SpiceJet saw its share go up marginally to 12.9 percent from 12.8 percent in the preceding month. IndiGo improved its market share to a fourth-month high of 38.7 percent.
