Nokia is only days away from launching its much-anticipated Nokia 6.1 Plus (Nokia X6) in India, but the company has managed to squeeze in another launch where it unveiled three smartphone models targeted towards the budget segment. Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 were announced in India on Thursday.
HMD Global, the licensee for Nokia-branded phones, launched the three new phones in India to offer an affordable choice to consumers. The smartphones were originally introduced in Russia, but they will now be available in India via Paytm, Nokia online store and through various offline retailers starting August 12.
Nokia 2.1 is the cheapest of the lot, priced at Rs 6,999, while Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 with 3GB+32GB configuration costs Rs 11,999 and Rs 14,999, respectively. Nokia is offering multiple colour choices for buyers, such as Blue/Copper, Blue/Silver and Grey/Silver in Nokia 2.1, Blue/Copper, Black/Chrome and White/Iron in Nokia 3.1 and Copper, Tempered Blue, and Black in Nokia 5.1.
"With this range, we deliver larger screens, enhanced performance across our range with processor upgrades offering up to 50 percent higher performance while maintaining the perfect balance with power consumption and stunning designs - all in a segment where consumers often need to compromise. With our renewed portfolio, you can now enjoy a premium smartphone experience without paying a premium on the price," Ajey Mehta, Vice President and Country Head, India, HMD Global, said in a statement.
Here's a look at the features of all three smartphones:
Nokia 2.1
Nokia 2.1 justifies its low price tag by offering a 5.5-inch HD display with 16:9 aspect ratio and anti-fingerprint coating. It comes with an 8MP rear-facing camera with LED flash and a 5MP front snapper.
Under the hood, there's a Snapdragon 425 chipset with 1GB RAM, 8GB expandable storage and 4,000mAh battery. Nokia 2.1 is powered by Android Oreo (Go edition), and it supports 4G LTE, and 3.5mm headphones.
Nokia 3.1
The slightly upgraded variant, Nokia 3.1 comes with a 5.2-inch HD+ display with 18:9 tall display, a 13MP rear-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and an 8MP front-facing snapper with f/2.0 aperture and 84.6-degree wide-angle-lens.
Under the hood, Nokia 3.1 comes with an octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor paired with 3GB RAM, 32GB expandable storage and 2,990mAh battery. Nokia 3.1, like the Nokia 5.1, is a part of Google's Android One programme and runs Android Oreo out-of-the-box with the promise to get Android Pie in due time.
The smartphone doesn't have a fingerprint scanner, which is surprising as many phones in its price range offer the one-tap security unlocking feature.
Nokia 5.1
Finally, the most premium of the lot is the Nokia 5.1 and it comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone gets a 16MP rear-facing camera with PDAF and LED flash, along with an 8MP front-facing snapper.
Under the hood, Nokia 5.1 is powered by a MediaTek MT6755S processor paired with 3GB RAM, 32GB expandable storage and a 3,000mAh battery. Unlike its lower-end siblings, Nokia 5.1 gets a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
