Kangana Ranaut and Deepika Padukone clearly have a cold war situation going on, and things could turn worse with Homi Adajania wanting to direct the former in his next. The two have apparently met for script narration sessions.
The "Rangoon" actress has a whirlwind of a schedule ahead. After wrapping up the Vishal Bhardwaj directorial, she has Hansal Mehta's film on the infamous Indian-origin "Bombshell Bandit" nurse in line.
"Kangana's date diary is choc-a-bloc for at least the next six months. However, despite that, she has shown interest in Homi's project and has also met him to discuss the nitty-gritty of it. If things fall in place, she may sign it and start shooting by the end of this year or early 2017," an insider told Mid-Day.
Homi and Deepika share an "unspoken" understanding and the two films they have done together — "Cocktail" and "Finding Fanny" — are proof of that. Deepika wasn't on top of her game until "Cocktail" happened to her, after which critics welcomed the actress in the lady. But Homi has always shied away from taking credit for bringing out the performer in her.
"I don't want to take too much credit for Deepika because it's all her. It was Deepika's decision to trust her director blindly; once she surrendered completely, then it was all her talent. Her character, Veronica, was the hero of Cocktail, she didn't need a guy to survive," Homi had told The Indian Express two years ago.
Deepika, as of now, is busy with her Hollywood debut opposite Vin Diesel in "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage." Scheduled for a Jan. 20, 2017 release, the film also features Tony Jaa, Nina Dobrev and Ruby Rose in key roles.
