A few days after a cleric at the influential Dargah Aala Hazrat seminary in Uttar Pradesh's issued a fatwa against Nida Khan calling for her boycott, another fatwa has now been issued against the triple talaq victim.
Nida Khan's life under threat?
According to the fatwa issued by Moin Siddique Noori, an NGO head, a cash prize of Rs 11,786 has been announced for anyone who stones Nida.
A fatwa has also been declared against Farhat Naqvi, the sister of Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
Nida is a resident of Bareilly district.
"Our group will award Rs 11,786 to anyone who stones Nida Khan and , shaves their heads and scares them away from India," Hindustan Times quoted All India Faizan-e-Madina Council head Noori as saying.
"A fatwa issued against me says whosoever brings chopped hair of Nida Khan will be rewarded with an amount of Rs.11786 and if I do not leave this country within 3 days, I will be attacked with stones," Khan, who was given triple talaq in 2016 said, reported ANI.
Nida also did not go and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday (July 21) over death threats.
"These people issuing such fatwas should be stopped. I will take a proper appointment to meet PM Modi and will appeal to him about it. He was in Shahjahanpur today but I decided not to go to meet him due to my own security issues," Khan added.
What did the earlier fatwa say?
Khan had got married to Sheeran Raza, who is from the family of the head of Aala Hazrat in 2015. She has been running an NGO called Aala Hazrat Helping Society for women who are victims of the controversial Muslim divorce.
"Halala is mentioned in the Quran. If Nida does not apologise, she should be boycotted. Nobody should talk or greet her and people should stop eating with her." the fatwa had said.
"No medicines will be provided if she falls ill. If she dies, no one is allowed to offer 'namaz' on her 'janaza' (funeral procession). She cannot be buried in the kabristan (graveyard) after her death," the fatwa further added.
Like Khan, Naqvi, too was divorced wrongfully. She too runs an NGO called Mera Haq and fights cases of triple talaq victims.
