Arijit Singh is the latest Bollywood celeb to have allegedly received an extortion call from underworld gangster Ravi Pujari.
The don has demanded the "Tum Hi Ho" singer to pay Rs 5 crore, the Mumbai police said on Monday, reported PTI.
Pujari told the singer that if he can't pay the amount, he should perform stage shows free of cost.
"The singer hasn't yet lodged an FIR," said DCP M Dahikar.
"The singer told the police that Pujari, who spoke to his (Singh's) assistant, said if he can't pay, then he can do some foreign shows for free (in lieu of ransom)," said Subhash Khanvilkar, senior inspector, Oshiwara police station.
Last year, during the release of "Happy New Year", Shah Rukh Khan as well as filmmakers Farah Khan and Mahesh Bhatt and his family were on the hit list of underworld don Ravi Pujari.
The Mumbai police arrested a few of the gang members involved in the case. After the interrogation, the arrested members revealed that it was Pujari's plan to attack filmmakers and scare the film industry.
Earlier, there were also reports that Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit Nene was threatened in a similar manner. The person told her he would kill her children if she did not pay the ransom. The accused was later identified as Praveen Kumar Pradhan, who was associated with underworld don Chhota Rajan.
