It appears like actors portraying the rough and tough role of a police officer have become a trend among Bollywood films.
It started with Salman Khan, who took up the Khaki uniform in blockbuster "Dabangg" (2010) and then Ajay Devgn too sported the tough look in "Singham", which turned a superhit. The latest to join was "Mardaani" actress Rani Mukerji.
And now, even Farhan Akhtar will reportedly play a cop, not just in one but in two films.
Earlier, there were reports that Farhan will be playing the role of a police officer in Rahul Dholakia's "Raees", which also stars Shah Rukh Khan. And now, the actor-director will reportedly essay the role of an Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) cop in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's next film "Do".
Although, the multi-talented actor has directed the films "Don" and "Don 2", which had police officers in important roles, this would be the first time that he will portray as a cop himself. He is said to be quite excited for the challenging roles.
"Although Farhan has directed Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011) — which saw actors play police officers — he has never essayed the role of a cop himself. And he is very excited to take the first step in a new direction. It will surely be challenging for him." a source close to Farhan told Hindustan Times.
"Farhan feels that it will be challenging for him to portray a policeman because he has never played such a character before. This (Bejoy's film) will be a more commercial project for him." the source added.
"Do" will be helmed by Bejoy Nambiar of "Shaitan" fame and will also have Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan in an important role. The film is an intense drama in which Bachchan will be playing the role of an ailing bed ridden chess master.
However, further information regarding the project has been kept under wraps by the makers.
Meanwhile, Farhan has just wrapped Zoya Akhtar's multi-starrer film "Dil Dhadakne Do". He will now start working with Shah Rukh for the first time in "Raees". It will be co-produced by Farhan and Ritesh Sidwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment.
