Akshay Kumar fans are in for a double treat this year as the actor will be seen in a double role in the Hindi remake of Vijay's "Kaththi." AR Murugadoss will helm the Hindi remake of 2014's Tamil action-drama.
There were reports that the Hindi version of the film will be different from the original film. However, the double role plot remains the same. The Tamil action-drama features Vijay in a double role, as a thief and as a student with communist ideologies. Similarly, in the Hindi version Akshay will be seen in a double role.
"Murugadoss is presently re-scripting the film to fit a more North Indian set-up but Akshay will be seen in a double role," a source close to the development informed Mumbai Mirror, adding that "the original story revolved around the issue of farmers committing suicide due to corporate encroachment."
The Hindi version has been titled as "Ikka" and the makers will start shooting for the film by August this year. The makers are expected to finish the shooting of the film in two months.
In 2012, Akshay played a double role — an inspector and a theif — in Prabhu Deva directorial "Rowdy Rathore." The film became a blockbuster hit and it remains Akshay's highest grosser till now.
Meanwhile, 2016 will be a busy year for Akshay as he has signed several projects. He is set for "Rustom" and "Housefull 3" release and he is simultaneously shooting for Rajinikanth's "2.0" aka "Robot 2." Apart from these projects, Akshay will soon start shooting for "Holiday 2" and "Namastey England."
