Just two days after actor Prithviraj Sukumaran and director RS Vimal launched their upcoming magnum opus "Karnan" in Dubai, news about another film based on the same mythological character starring megastar Mammootty has started doing the rounds on social media.
Actor P Sreekumar claims that he has been working on the script of a film based on the tragic hero from Mahabharata for the past 18 years and was planning to announce the project during Pooja festival. The 5-hour long script was changed five times and is now 2 hours and 45 minutes long. The movie, to be made on a whopping budget, will be directed by Madhupal and will have Mammootty playing the role of Karnan.
Reports also suggest that Prithviraj was also aware of Sreekumar's project, as he was also approached for the movie. Since the makers of the Prithviraj starrer have already booked the title "Karnan" for their bilingual movie, Sreekumar and team will have to find a different name for the Mammootty starrer.
Meanwhile, Prithviraj and Vimal, who are basking in the success of their previous movie "Ennu Ninte Moideen", have also released the first look motion poster of "Karnan". KK Senthil Kumar, who has worked in epic movies "Magadheera" and "Baahubali", will handle the cinematography in "Karnan".

The epic drama is said to be biggest film ever made in Mollywood, produced by Venu Kunnappilly under the banner of Kavya Films and will be shot in Haridwar and Varanasi. They have also released a video titled "Mahabharatha Yathra", in which director Vimal is seen travelling throughout Jaipur, Kurukshetra, Mathura, Delhi and Uttarakhand, where Pandavas, Kauravas, Krishna and others are believed to have lived years ago.
If the two stars -- Mammootty and Prithviraj -- are preparing for the role of "Karnan" for two big budget projects, the industry will witness a big clash and comparisons will be made on who plays the part better.
