Days after Nina Dobrev announced her exit from "The Vampire Diaries", an Instagram picture by Ian Somerhalder has got fans worried whether their favourite character Damon will leave the show too.
Somerhalder, who plays Damon in The CW series, posted the picture on Instagram and wrote: "#tbt 2009-this guy. The start of it all... Thank you world for making this journey and this dude live. Love, Ian&Damon S."
It is being speculated that if both Elena and Damon do not appear in the show, the vampire thriller may not get renewed for a seventh season.
With Nina's exit last weekend, the vampire series had a bleak hope of surviving. Ian had personally met his "Vampire Diaries" co-star Nina to sort things out and persuade her to stay for one last season. But Nina did not budge from her decision.
"Although her leaving does make things easier for him [Ian] personally, he knows how important Nina is to the show... The love triangle was what fans responded to. Without Nina, Ian is very concerned with the direction the show will take," an insider told The HollywoodLife.
"The Twilight" actress Nikki Reed is the only one who isn't upset with Nina's exit from the show. Nina and Ian had dated each other for three years and the couple broke up in 2013. Both tried moving on, with Ian even getting engaged to Nikki.
But Nikki was quite insecure about Ian and Nina still filming passionate romantic scenes. She worried that her fiancé might stray away. Now that Nina has left the show, she is reportedly relieved.
Though Nina had mentioned in her goodbye message to her fans that she had never wanted to drag her story for long and always looked at it as "a six season adventure", fans believe it was Ian and Nikki's relationship that ended the thing for good.
