From errors in SSLC mark lists to delay in distribution of school textbooks, Kerala's educational department has recently been mired with several controversies. Now, the latest reports from the state suggest that class 8 textbooks have been published with errors.

Instead of Malayalam writer Priya AS' photo, an image of English writer Priya Sarukkai Chabria has been used along with the former's bio-data. Besides, the title of the writer's work, "Manjumarangalk Idayil" has also been printed wrongly as "Manjumarangal".

The mistake has been noted after the printing of almost 4.5 lakh copies by SCERT. The incident has sparked a fresh controversy and social-media users have been slamming the government for its inefficiency.

Recently, the Tamil Nadu government withdrew 3.5 lakh copies of school textbooks, which had incorrectly mentioned K Karunanidhi as the chief minister of the state.

Meanwhile, Kerala Education Minister PK Abdu Rabb on Tuesday, 7 July, has declared that the Onam examinations will be conducted after the regional festival from 7-15 September as several students are yet to receive the textbooks.

The minister added that 95% of the textbooks have been published and also assured that the printing will be over by 18 July.

The delay in the book distribution had also sparked many protests across the state.
