Multifaceted personality Cho Ramaswamy passed away on Wednesday, December 7, at the Apollo Hospital. He was 82 and is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
He was suffering from age-related issues and was admitted to the hospital last week for respiratory problems. The death of the veteran has come as a shock to the people, who are yet to recover from the demise of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, who passed away on Monday.
Cho Ramaswamy was born to R Srinivasa Iyer and Rajammal on October 5, 1934. He donned several hats including that of a stage play and cinema actor, screenplay writer and a director.
He was an actor, who made his debut in Paar Magale Paar as a comedian. In his four-decade career, he predominantly appeared in supporting roles and acted in over 190 movies. Some of his popular movies were Muhammad Bin Tughlaq, Thenmazhi, Ninaivil Nindraval and Bommalaatam, among.
Cho Ramaswamy was also a political satirist, who founded political magazine Tuglak. He was praised for his impartial views. Cho Ramaswamy used to criticise both the left and right wing politics. He also served as the member of Rajya Sabha from 1999 to 2005.
The veteran had worked with Jayalalithaa in 19 movies apart from being a part of the same drama troupe. As a result, they shared a warm relationship and Jaya was known to consult him and seek his opinions on many issues.
Earlier this year, Jayalalithaa and Narendra Modi had paid a visit to him when he was ill.
