Update: 6.05 p.m. IST: A suicide attack outside Afghanistan's Defence Ministry in Kabul killed at least nine and injured 13 people.
Kabul police chief Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi has confirmed the attack and the death toll, according to Khaama Press, an Aghani news agency.
Original Story: A suicide attack in front of the Ministry of Defence in Afghanistan's capital Kabul reportedly killed 12 — two army personnel and 10 civilians — and injured eight others Saturday. The Taliban have claimed to have killed 23 and injured 29.
The attacker was waiting outside the ministry for an army personnel near whom he could blow himself up, reports said. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack, reports said.
The slain and the injured have been rushed to hospital.
This is the second suicide attack of the day in Afghanistan.
Earlier in the day, a suicide attack had killed 11 and injured 40 is Asadabad city in Kanur province.
A militia commander who rallied against the Taliban was the target of the attack.
