I-League champions Bengaluru FC will face Singapore side Tampines Rovers in the AFC Cup 2016 quarterfinals. The Indian football side made history earlier this season after reaching the last eight of the Asian competition for the first time.
BFC will play their opening leg game against the Singapore side at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on September 14, while the return leg will be played on September 21 in Singapore.
Rovers are not an unfamiliar side anymore for the Indian football fans as the five-time Singapore League champions are facing an Indian football side for the third time this year. They took on former I-League champions Mohun Bagan in the AFC Champions League 2016 qualifiers in January. Bagan beat the Singapore side 3-1.
The two sides clashed once again in the AFC Cup 2016 round of 16 in May and this time, Tampines Rovers reigned supreme with a 2-1 result and in the process, Bagan's campaign in the Asian competition came to an end.
South China, Air Force Club, Al Jaish, Al Ahed, Al Muharraq and defending champions Johor are the other sides who will compete in the AFC Cup 2016 quarterfinals.
