Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has opened well at the Indian box office, beating Ajay Devgn's Shivaay fair and square. The glowing reviews and the festive spirit have helped the Karan Johar-directed film make a mark at the ticket-window.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil film has collected Rs. 13.10 crore, while Shivaay raked in Rs. 10.06 crore on their first Saturday at the domestic box office, bringing the two-day total to Rs. 26.40 crore and Rs. 20.30 crore, respectively. Even though it was predicted that Shivaay will have one over ADHM, the numbers paint a totally different picture.
Taran Adarsh: #ADHM Fri 13.30 cr, Sat 13.10 cr. Total: ₹ 26.40 cr. India biz.
Taran Adarsh: #ShivaayFri 10.24 cr, Sat 10.06 cr. Total: ₹ 20.30 cr. India biz.
However, what's strange is that the numbers (of ADHM) have dropped on the second day, which is strange considering all everyone had to say about it was that it is Johar's most grown-up film yet.
The romantic-drama has been well-received at multiplexes across metros, where its screen count is higher than Shivaay, whereas, Devgn's action-drama is winner at the single screens. However, it is too soon to judge that ADHM has won the box office battle. The numbers from the coming week will give a rough idea on which one will have an upper hand.
Even though the numbers have dropped on day 2, ADHM has done fairly well in just two days of its release. Here's a quick analysis on what may have worked in the film's favour so far:
The positive feedback from viewers is one of the reasons why the numbers haven't shown a sharp decline on day 2. Also, a browse on social media will tell you that the audience has really loved Ranbir Kapoor (Ayaan Sangar) and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's (Saba) sizzling chemistry in ADHM. The songs created a major hype and have aided ADHM in minting the money it has thus far.
Both Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay are expected to do better in the coming days because there are no big-ticket releases until next week. Aditya Chopra's Befikre is out on December 9.
