Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (ADHM) and Shivaay (Shivay) have made good collections at the Indian box office in the first weekend. But they have ended up as the lowest grossing Bollywood films released on Diwali in the last six years.
Diwali, which is one of the biggest Hindu festivals, has been an auspicious occasion for Bollywood, and filmmakers have mostly managed to treat the audience with some big-ticket movies on the occasion. In the last five years, the movies released during the festival have turned out to be big money spinners at the Indian box office.
Trade analysts had predicted that Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay, which were released as Diwali specials, would get a superb opening and make fantastic collections in the opening weekend. They were, in fact, expected to rake in the highest amount ever during Diwali festival, beating the records of all previous movies.
Released on a combined count of 5,000 screens, the Karan Johar and Ajay Devgn-directed movies received a good opening in the domestic market, but they failed to register a big leap on the following days. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay collected Rs 35.60 crore and Rs 28.56 crore, respectively, at the Indian box office in the first weekend.
