Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which opened on a grand note on October 28, collected a massive amount on its opening day at the Indian box office. The film has become the sixth highest box office opener of the year.
Released in over 2,350-2,500 screens (approximately) in India, the film collected Rs 13.30 crore on its first day in the domestic market. "#ADHM Fri ₹ 13.30 cr. India biz... EXCELLENT at plexes... Note: Dhanteras. Pre-Diwali," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, beat the first day box office collection record of Akshay Kumar's Airlift (Rs 12.35 crore) but failed to surpass Rustom, Housefull 3, Fan, MS Dhoni:The Untold Story and Sultan's opening day collection.
Trade experts had predicted that Ae Dil Hai Mushkil will have a terrific start at the box office and will register a big number on its opening day. The film has received positive response from critics and the word of mouth is expected to take the film's business higher over the long weekend.
Meanwhile, the film witnessed a great opening at the overseas box office as well raking in Rs 3.70 crore on Thursday. "#ADHM starts off with a BANG in UAE-GCC... Collects $ 554,000 [₹ 3.70 cr] on Thu... OUTSTANDING!," Taran Adarsh tweeted.
With this huge collection on the opening day, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is expected to break a few box office records in the first week itself. Although it clashed at the box office with Ajay Devgn's Shivaay, the film has been successful in drawing the audience to the theatres. Also, since no big tickets are being released over the next few weeks, it is likely to enjoy a good run for the next fortnight or so.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil narrates a one sided love story. The film had been making tremendous buzz ever since the project was announced. Also, Ranbir and Aishwarya's sizzling chemistry has been one of the major highlights of the film and Fawad Khan and Shah Rukh Khan's special appearances add to the charm.
With this, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil marks the second highest opening day box office collection record of Ranbir after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and the biggest opener for KJo. This is Karan's first directorial venture to have registered a double digit figure in crores on its first day.
