Fellow Batman actors have paid tribute to the legendary Batman of the '60s, Adam West. The actor, who is known for playing Batman in the classic 1960s television series, breathed his last on Friday after a battle with leukemia.

Several celebrities, including his co-stars and actors who portrayed Batman, took to social media to remember their hero. Val Kilmer, who played the role of Batman in the 1995 Batman Forever movie, was among the first to pay tribute on social media.

"Ah dear Adam West. He was always so kind when we met. A real gent. Once when I was a kid we found ourselves in front the batmobile. I got in," Kilmer said.

Ben Affleck, the current Batman, also posted a heartfelt message on Twitter and thanked West on showing them how to play the character. "Adam West exemplified heroism. Kind, funny and an all around great guy. Thank you for showing us all how it's done. @therealadamwest," he tweeted.

Kevin Conroy, who worked with West in the Batman: The Animated Series, said West was the Batman of his childhood. "Adam West has passed. The Batman of my childhood. He brought us so much entertainment and was a truly class act. We'll miss u Adam."

Even DC Entertainment issued a statement paying tribute to West. "Like many others, Adam West as Batman was part of my childhood," said Geoff Johns, president & chief creative officer, DC Entertainment. "Watching those reruns every day after school, Batman made reading comics that much more real for me growing up."

"Batman's popularity will be forever linked with Adam West," said Jim Lee, publisher, DC Entertainment. "He brought joy to legions of fans around the world and was the gateway for many of them to discover or in some cases rediscover their love of comic books. He'll be deeply missed."
