The fifth edition of Just For Women (JFW) magazine's Women Achievers Awards 2013 was held in Chennai on Friday.
Eight women achievers were honoured for their contributions and achievements in their respective fields. South Indian film star Trisha Krishnan was honoured during the award ceremony for her excellence in cinema.Trisha began her film career as a leading actress with popular tamil star Suriya in "Mounam Pesiyadhe", which released in 2002. After a string of flops, the actress rose to fame with hit tamil films like "Gilli" and "Saami". Since then, the actress has starred in more than 40 films including one film in Bollywood (Khatta Meetha).
Expressing happiness on receiving the award, the elated actress tweeted: "Thanks JFW...Was indeed a very special night..What wud I do witout my family,friends n u people out tere who r soooo good 2 me.Blessed !!!."
Trisha was joined by other women achievers including veteran actor Saroja Devi, south star Hansika Motwani, squash player Dipika Pallikal, singer Sujata Mohan, dancer Alarmel Valli, scientist Tessy Thomas and tennis champion Sania Mirza to receive awards for their accomplishments.
The awards ceremony, which was held at the Lady Andal School auditorium in Chennai, was a star-studded event with several film stars gracing the occasion. Actors Madhavan, Jeeva, "Kolaveri Di" fame Dhanush, actress Kushboo, Andrea, music directors Devi Sri Prasad, Anirudh, Harris Jeyaraj; cinematographers Ravi K Chandran, Santosh Sivan; singers Vijay Yesudas, P. Shusheela, were among others who attended the gala event.
