Upcoming Telugu actor Nanduri Uday Kiran, who has acted in films such as "Parare" and "Facebook", was arrested in connection with drug trafficking, on Monday.
Uday Kiran (29) was nabbed while trying to buy cocaine from Nigerian national Rotimi Olusola Kehinde at the Jubilee Hills check post. Kehinde, who came to India on a business visa, acquired the drugs from a Sudanese native named Hakeem in Delhi.
"A drug peddler named Hakeem, a Sudanese native, supplied the drugs to Kehinde in Delhi. He bought cocaine for Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000 per gram depending on the needs of the customers in Hyderabad," Additional DCP of Task Force, Limba Reddy was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.
Kehinde developed local contacts in Hyderabad and was involved in trafficking drugs. He was arrested along with actor Uday Kiran, while they were allegedly invovled in a drug deal.
Police seized 15 gms of drugs from both the accused, along with a cash of ₹4,000. The cops are verifying as to whether Kehinde has any other Tollywood connections. As of now, they have found out only Uday Kiran was involved in this drug transaction. "Uday was alone in this drug transaction, however we are verifying if any other people from Tollywood are involved," Reddy told DC.
This is not the first time that police have found drug peddlers having Tollywood connections. In the past, Ravi Teja's brothers Bharath (who has starred in films such as "Dhee" and "Ready") and Raghubabu were arrested in connection with a drug scandal. They were nabbed along with a Nigerian national, while allegedly dealing with banned drugs. Police reportedly recovered around 50 grams of cocaine from them and filed a case.
