Actor Joy Mathew has come forward to defend Lijo Jose Pellissery and has praised his latest directorial "Double Barrel".
He took to Facebook and updated his status, saying that his contribution to cinema will be appreciated historically.
"I salute you my friend Lijo Jose Pellissery and your creativity in your great experimental work 'DOUBLE BARREL'. You have shown the courage that you are not a director for compromises...and you broke the concepts of our Cinema or celluloyd drama(Am I right?)," he posted on his Facebook page.
"I know your caliber while I was working with you in that magical movie AMEN. And I do salute you for your surrealistic ways of expressions. Sorry to say that you born in a wrong place where primitive minds dancing only for money.
"I really feel sad that I couldn't participate or share with you in your effort DOUBLE BARREL due to my tight schedules, you know. But I can tell you that your contribution to the filmdom will be appreciated historically while the mud heads celebrates their stuff hysterically..." he added.
Film-maker Lijo Jose Pellissery has directed critically acclaimed films including "Nayakan" and "City of God" and the popular magical realism film, "Amen".
But his Onam 2015 release, "Double Barrel", could not beckon film-goers to theatres as some of the initial reviews indiscriminately criticised the Prithviraj-Indrajith starrer.
However, the director clarified that "Double Barrel" was an experimental film and that he did not want to repeat "Amen"-like films as he does not want to be on the safer side.
