Dhanbad girl Sonali Mukherjee, whose face was permanently disfigured in an acid attack in 2003, appeared on Sunday's special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati season 6.
Mukherjee was accompanied by actress Lara Dutta Bhupathi on the special episode of KBC titled "Doosra Mauka" (a second chance). "Doosra Mauka" engages with those who have been victims of great injustice, the show host Amitabh Bachchan explained on his Twitter handle. The objective is to give a second chance to people who show courage in the face of adversity.
Former Miss Universe Lara Dutta participated in the show to help Mukherjee win a large sum of prize money.
"Was happy and proud to play alongside Sonali Mukherjee on KBC tonite. Amazing spirit and determination from this lovely young woman," Lara Dutta tweeted.
The 27-year-old victim of brutal acid attack won Rs. 25 lakh in the game show.
"Meeting Big B was the best thing. He is such a big star, but is so humble and down-to-earth. He held my hands and escorted me to the hot seat. He was behaving just like a father would do. I even met Lara Dutta Bhupathi for the first time on the sets. Since I cannot see, Lara came to help me with the questions," she told The Times of India.
When asked how she would use the prize money, Mukherjee replied: "I haven't thought about it yet. If I recover, I want to help people like me. In my nine years of struggle, I have faced a lot. I know the kind of difficulties we have to face, with no help from any quarters. I've had 22 surgeries and nine more are remaining, so that at least my eyes and ears are functional."
