Farah Khan's "Happy New Year" starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Sonu Sood, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Vivaan Shah and Jackie Shroff, turned out to be the highest grosser last year.
With the huge success of the film, reports started doing the rounds that the makers are planning for a sequel.
It has now been learnt that Farah has given the script writing responsibility to Abhishek, who received positive responses for his performance in the blockbuster.
According to an IANS report, the filmmaker, who attended the screening of the film "Margarita With A Straw" on Monday, mentioned that Abhishek wanted her to make a sequel of the blockbuster and hence she has asked him to come up with an interesting story.
"Abhishek Bachchan is writing for 'Happy New Year' sequel. He has taken the responsibility now. If I will like the script, then we would make the sequel," Farah told the daily.
"Happy New Year", which was released during Diwali 2014, is Farah's first 200 crore grosser.
Recently, there were also news that the choreographer-turned-filmmaker would cast "Thinking Out Loud" hitmaker Ed Sheeran in the sequel. Sheeran, who was recently in Mumbai, even attended Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's party.
"It was a surprise when my cousin Zubin called me from London to say that Ed Sheeran was going to be in town and wanted to meet up with me and my Bollywood friends. It was very gracious of Abhishek to let me bring Ed and his team to his home for a party," Farah had told Mirror.co.uk
"Not only did Ed hit it off with Abhishek, but before I left, they both also decided that Ed would act in Happy New Year 2," she confirmed.
With popular celebs joining the ensemble cast of "Happy New Year", the sequel is sure to be a mega-blockbuster.
