Actress Abhirami is on a comeback spree. She returned to Malayalam cinema after a long gap of 14 years and will now be seen in a Tamil movie, after almost 10 years.
Abhirami's comeback Tamil movie is the upcoming Jyothika starrer, a Tamil remake of Malayalam movie "How Old Are you?". The movie is being directed by Rosshan Andrrews.
"I was offered two roles by Rosshan Andrrews in this film — a colleague of the lead character, who has more screen time, and the character played by Kaniha in Malayalam. I picked the latter, as that has more impact in the film. I am quite excited to work with Rosshan and I would be shooting with Jyothika on my first day in Chennai," said Abhirami to The Times of India.
Abhirami recently made her comeback in to Malayalam cinema in the critically acclaimed movie "Apothecary" directed by Madhav Ramadasan. In the film, the actress portrayed the character of Dr. Nalini Nambiar, a gynaecologist and was much appreciated for her performance.
She is also awaiting the release of her movie "Driver on Duty" directed by Manoj Palodan in which she plays the role of a police officer. The story of the film was inspired by Asia's first women police station, which was inaugurated in 1973 in Kozhikode. The film has Asif Ali in the lead who plays the role of Ramakrishnan, a police jeep driver and the lone male in the female police station.
Abhirami made her Tamil debut in 2001 in the movie "Vaanavil" and later went on to do movies like "Middle Class Madhavan", "Dosth", "Samudhiram", "Charlie Chaplin", "Karmegham" and "Samsthanam". Her last Tamil movie was in 2004 in Kamal Haasan's "Virumaandi" where she played the role of Annalakshmi, Virumaandi's (Kamal Haasan) lover in the much-noticed movie.
