Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor starrer "ABCD 2" (Any Body Can Dance 2) has recorded the biggest opening of 2015, beating the records of Akshay Kumar's "Gabbar Is Back" at the domestic box office.
"ABCD 2" has registered the highest opening day box office collection this year. Akshay's "Gabbar Is Back" held the record of being the highest opener with ₹13.05 crore, but "ABCD 2" has now taken the top slot with over ₹14 crore.
"#ABCD2 takes a S-U-P-E-R-B start. Collects ₹ 14.30 cr on Fri, despite rains playing havoc in Mumbai. HIGHEST OPENER of 2015 [so far]," trade analyst Taran Adrash tweeted.
"#ABCD2 North America collects $ 117k with 16 screens yet to report. Day 1 est to close at $ 140k. HIGHEST opening for Varun Dhawan film," he added.
Despite heavy rains in Mumbai, mixed reviews and lesser number of screen counts, the film has opened well at both multiplexes and single screens. The film was released in approximately 2500 screens in India compared to "Gabbar Is Back' which was showcased in over 3000 screens.
Mumbai region alone accumulated more than ₹5 crore on first day, despite heaving rains and water logging, according to Box Office India.
Directed by Remo D'Souza, the film also features Prabhu Deva, Dharmesh Yelande, Lauren Gottlieb, Raghav Juyal, Tisca Chopra and Punit Pathak among others.
