"ABCD 2" (Any Body Can Dance 2), directed by Remo D'Souza, has smashed the records of Akshay Kumar's "Gabbar Is Back" again. After shattering the opening day record, "ABCD 2" broke the opening weekend box office collection record of "Gabbar Is Back".
Now, "ABCD 2" has recorded the highest opening weekend box office collection this year. "ABCD 2" accumulated ₹46.35 crore in its opening weekend as compared to ₹39 .41 crore of "Gabbar Is Back".
The film, starring Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead role, has also become the first film of 2015 to earn ₹46 crore in just three days of its release.
"#ABCD2 continues the upward trend on Day 3. Fri 14.30 cr, Sat 14.54 cr, Sun 17.51 cr. Total: ₹ 46.35 cr. India biz. FABULOUS!" box office analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"#ABCD2 records the HIGHEST OPENING WEEKEND of 2015 [so far]. First *Hindi film* to cross ₹ 45 cr mark [Fri-Sun] in 2015. India biz," Adarsh added.
Due to advance booking, Sunday shows recorded huge occupancy across India. First day and second day business of "ABCD 2" were in the same range, but on the third day the dance film showed an impressive jump.
"With the advance booking for Sun looking very good, #ABCD2 is looking at ₹ 45 cr [+/-] opening weekend, which is PHENOMENAL," Adarsh tweeted on Sunday.
"ABCD 2" had a phenomenal three-day run at the domestic box office and it is expected to continue its dream run in its first week. Apart from the makers, the cast and crew of the film are also expecting the film to do well.
Choreographer-turned-director Prabhu Deva said that the entire team of "ABCD 2" has done a terrific job, and he hopes that the film will do well in terms of revenue.
"I expect the film to be well-received. The buzz is already good. I hope it does well... we have worked really hard," Prabhu Deva said.
"Remo and his team, Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor -- everyone has done a terrific job," he added.
