Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor starrer "ABCD 2" has struck gold at the Chennai box office. Now, the movie is set to beat some of the recent hits like "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" and "Dil Dhadakne Do" in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
After getting a flying start at the Chennai box office in the first weekend, "ABCD 2" was expected to slow down. But to everybody's surprise, the film stood strong at the collection centres in the second weekend as well.
"ABCD 2" had 42 shows in the weekend from which it earned ₹13.38 lakh, reports Behindwoods. The Bollywood film had collected ₹13.64 lakh from 76 shows in the weekdays at the Chennai box office. In the opening weekend, Varun Dhawan's film earned ₹24.62 lakh. The Bollywood movie had 78 shows in the first weekend and majority of the shows registered above 80% occupancy.
The total collection of "ABCD 2" by the end of its second weekend stands at ₹51.65 lakh at the Chennai box office. Now, the film is just inches away from beating the records of "Tanu Weds Manu Returns", which made lifetime business of ₹53.21 lakh in Chennai, and "Dil Dhadakne Do", which made about ₹52 lakh.
While it has been predicted that "ABCD 2" would beat the "Dil Dhadakne Do" record by Monday (29 June), the "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" record could be broken by Thursday (2 July).
It will be a remarkable feat for Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor's film, considering that the film does not have an A-list star in the cast.
