Musical love story "Aashiqui 2" is continuing to draw audiences even in its third week of release. Despite two other new films, the Aditya Kapur-Shraddha Kapoor starrer is still doing well at the Indian box office.
The film, made on a budget of ₹12 crore, had collected more than ₹54 crore in just a few weeks.
The film which entered its third week is still doing better in some circuits like CI. The collections in its third week dropped by only 20 to 25 percent as compared to the second week.
It has become the third highest grosser film of the year after Saif Ali Khan's "Race 2" and Akshay Kumar's "Special 26", according to Business Today. The film remained unaffected by competition from big budget movies like "Shootout at Wadala" and "Go Goa Gone" at the domestic box office.
After earning ₹54 crore it has become a superhit of the year.
The film has fared better than other films like courtroom comedy "Jolly LLB", adult comedy "Chashme Baddoor", "Himmatwala" and "Kai Po Che!".
The Mohit Suri directed film is a sequel to 1990 cult classic "Aashiqui" which was a blockbuster hit.
The team of "Aashiqui 2" celebrated the success of the film earlier this month at a party held at a suburban bar. Among the stars who attended the bash were Bhushan Kumar, Divya Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Mohit's wife Udita Goswami, Shagufta Rafique (writer of the film), Jeet Gangulli, Palak Mucchal, and Mithoon.
