Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor starrer love story, "Aashiqui 2" started with a bang at theaters across India.
The romantic film directed by Mohit Suri registered good occupancy at both single screens and multiplexes, despite having no big stars. The musical love story was released in more than 2,800 screens in India.
Shraddha, daughter of Shakti Kapoor, made her Bollywood debut with "Luv Ka The End", while Aditya Roy Kapur made his film debut in 2009's "London Dreams".
"Aashiqui 2" was released along with Hollywood film, "Iron Man 3" starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow in the lead. Both the films had a superb opening at box offices.
"Aashiqui 2 Delhi, Indore, Jaipur morning shows start with a bang! Even in mass-dominated centres, the start is superb," trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh said.
The morning and afternoon shows had a good occupancy, but the evening shows at multiplexes witnessed a huge jump.
As per the early trends, the low-budget film has raked in more than ₹6 crore at domestic box offices on opening day. With over ₹6 crore in its kitty, the film starring new faces in the lead roles had one of the biggest starts at collection centers, after Karan Johar's "Student of the Year".
"SOTY" was released in 2012 and it minted ₹9.25 crore on first Friday. Earlier this year, Abhishek Kapoor's "Kai Po Che" also starring newcomers was released that raked in ₹4 crore on opening day.
"Aashiqui 2" was one the most-anticipated films of the year. Songs like "Tum Hi Ho" and "Sun raha hu mein", which went viral on YouTube, also created lot of curiosity among the movie buffs. [Read the report here].
The romantic film is a sequel of the 1990 hit film, "Aashiqui" which was a hit. "Aashiqui" became a hit film due to its romantic songs and, after 2 decades, the sequel was expected to re-create similar magic.
