Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan was arrested on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in a sexual harassment case.
A complaint was filed by the MLA's sister-in-law against him on Tuesday and a sexual harassment case was registered against Khan in south-east Delhi's Jamia Nagar Police station. Khan's family called the charges false.
A case against Khan was registered under IPC sections 354(A)(sexual harassment), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) and 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty).
The MLA, the AAP legislator from Okhla, had gone on Monday to the Jamia Nagar Police station with a large group of supporters and had dared the police to arrest him. The police, however, refused to arrest him. Khan later told the media that the police were under public pressure. "We will not arrest him now. Whatever he is doing is of his own accord. We will go by our investigation," a senior police officer said.
Khan on Wednesday tweeted that he had gone to meet a senior police officer when the police arrested him.
Amanatullah Khan has also been arrested before for allegedly threatening a woman and trying to run his car over her. He was later released on bail.
