Aam Aadmi Party MLA Alka Lamba sustained head injuries when a group of unidentified men pelted stones at her during an anti-drug drive in New Delhi on Sunday morning. The Delhi police have arrested a suspect.
The arrested man has been identified as 23-year-old Jatin. "The suspect works at a sweet shop. He has been booked under IPC Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt)," The Hindu quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma as saying.
The incident happened around 6 am when Lamba, an AAP lawmaker from the Chandni Chowk area, was addressing locals in north Delhi's Kashmere Gate. She was rushed to Aruna Asaf Ali Government Hospital with head injuries and was discharged later.
AAP claimed that the suspect, covered in a blanket, was first seen at a sweet shop owned by BJP legislator Om Prakash Sharma. However, some in the party have claimed that the drug cartel was behind the attack, PTI reports.

AAP leader Ashutosh further alleged conspiracy behind the attack and said in a tweet, "She was targeted as she was the only one who got hit. It's deep conspiracy. AAP will fight back". He further made clarifications on his remark saying that he is not accusing anyone, but only stating the facts.
